Meet Cattlewags

Hey y’all! I’m going to give this blogging thing a try. For my first post, I’ll just help you to get to know me. I’ll be writing mostly about agriculture (specifically cattle, but I have opinions on just about everything!) and I will always welcome new ideas to write about. I’m working on my animal science degree from K-State but I also have an interest in ag communications. I am very passionate about the agriculture industry and I absolutely love educating the public about all things ag. Virginia is home but I do have a special place in my heart for the Midwest. My goal with this blog is to get OUR side of the story out there.

I grew up on a cow/calf operation in central Virginia working cows with my family. As my great-grandfather got older, we sold off our herd and rented out our land to a local Red Angus producer. He gave me a bottle calf to raise and that is how my very own herd got started. Today I have a handful of Red Angus and Shorthorn cattle pairs that I look forward to growing into a substantial sized herd one day. In the past I have worked on a local dairy farm, been an active participant in 4-H, judged on the Virginia State Dairy Judging Team, and showed cattle, among MANY other activities. Now I am just a college girl, living the dream, and learning as much as I possibly can about agriculture with a focus on livestock.

A few things you should know about me that will be highlighted in my blog posts: I am passionate about the 2050 situation; my focus is on beef cattle but I love all things livestock and am also working to expand my knowledge on other aspects of the industry; I am very defensive about misinformation that I come across, so be prepared for some serious rants; and finally, I speak my mind. If you don’t agree, I’m not sorry. This is America, find another blog to follow. If you want to have an honest discussion and are willing to come into it with an open mind, please, be my guest. But, I will not respond to close-minded attacks on my beliefs. Take it somewhere else.

A lot of my material will come from what I learn in my classes from world-class individuals in their own fields. I couldn’t ask for better people to learn under and I am excited to be sharing their knowledge with y’all as well. I look forward to sharing my passion with you through this blog!
